Ludhiana: The police on Saturday night booked a man living in
Canada for raping his daughter-in-law. The accused belongs to a village in Ludhiana district.
The 28-year-old woman said in her police complaint, “Two days after my marriage in December 2018, my husband returned to Canada. After some days, my father-in-law and other family members also left for Canada. They didn’t take me along. I lived alone at my in-law’s house. My in-laws would object to my parents and brothers coming to meet me at their house.”
In November 2019, her father-in-law returned to Ludhiana. “He would skirt the issue when I asked about my husband. One day, he gave me a spiked cold drink and raped me. He took pictures and made a video too. Thereafter, he continued to blackmail me. In December 2019, he returned to Canada, but kept sending me obscene messages. When I objected to it, he said it was normal there.”
She then lodged a police complaint.
Police have registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the
IPC against the accused.
