Mumbai News Live: The BJP on Sunday announced the candidature of Piyush Goyal, Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mhadik for the Rajya Sabha seats from Maharashtra. The official list of candidates was released by the central BJP late Sunday night.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said that BJP can never return to power in Maharashtra as it has a “good government”in the form of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and that the party did not honour its commitment made to Sena. Raut also attacked the Centre in Shiv Sena”s mouthpiece Saamana over terrorist attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, increasing unemployment in the country and the controversy surrounding the renaming of Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar.

On the case front, Mumbai on Sunday recorded 375 Covid-19 cases – up from 330 on Saturday — with zero deaths. According to data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), while the recovery rate was 98 per cent, the case doubling rate was estimated at 2,872 days. The overall growth rate between May 22 and 28 stood at 0.024 per cent.

BJP fields Dhananjay Mhadik to give tough fight to Sena’s Sanjay Pawar

The BJP on Sunday announced the candidature of Piyush Goyal, Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mhadik for the Rajya Sabha seats from Maharashtra. The official list of candidates was released by the central BJP late Sunday night.

The Union minister for commerce and industry, textiles, consumer affairs and food and public distribution, Goyal’s renomination for the Upper House was on expected lines. However, the candidature of Anil Bonde has come as a surprise. The former state agriculture minister in Devendra Fadnavis government, Bonde is currently with the National Agriculture Cell of the BJP.

Editorial in Saamana: Raut takes aim at Centre over unemployment, terror in J&K

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday attacked the Centre in the weekly column in the party’s official mouthpiece Saamana over terrorist attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, increasing unemployment in the country and the controversy surrounding the renaming of Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar. Raut said that even though it is a matter of pride that Prime Minister Modi is at the forefront in the crowd of world leaders, the unemployment rate in the country is also at its peak.

“Punjab and Kashmir are in turmoil and politics is moving in a different direction,” Raut wrote in the piece. He also criticised the BJP for not “recognising the Muslims, who are sacrificing their lives for the nation fighting terrorists in Kashmir”.

Maintaining that Shiv Sena never betrayed anyone, party leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday said that since the BJP did not honour its commitment made to the Sena, Maharashtra got a "good government" in the form of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).Addressing party workers in Kolhapur district of western Maharashtra, Raut also said that the BJP can never return to power in the state.

"Shiv Sena has never betrayed anyone. But since BJP did not honour the commitment made to our party, the state could get a good government in the form of MVA. Now, BJP will never come back to power in Maharashtra," he said.

CBI plan to make Waze approver in Anil Deshmukh case unfortunate, says Maha

The Maharashtra Congress on Sunday said the effort of the Central Bureau of Investigation to get dismissed policeman Sachin Waze to turn approver in the Anil Deshmukh corruption case was unfortunate. Waze is the main accused in the Antilia bomb scare and Mansukh Hiran murder case, the party's state unit spokesperson Sachin Sawant reminded.

"Is this conduct appropriate for a national investigating agency? The CBI's role in the Anil Deshmukh case has been questionable. The Rs 100 crore bribery allegation against Deshmukh has no evidence," Sawant claimed.

Rana couple supporters booked for norm violations during welcome procession, temple event

Independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana as well as some 15 of their supporters were booked for allegedly violating various norms and impeding traffic during a welcome event for the couple here, a police official said on Sunday.

The Rana couple was arrested on April 23 after announcing they would recite Hanuman Chalisa in front of 'Matoshree', the private residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in Bandra in Mumbai, the move leading to a tense stand-off with Shiv Sena workers through the day. They were granted bail on May 4 by a special court in Mumbai.

Maharashtra records 550 new cases, 1 fatality

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 550 new coronavirus positive cases, 21 more than the previous day, which raised the overall tally to 78,85,944, while one death took the toll to 1,47,859, the state health department said. On Saturday, the state had recorded 529 cases, but no virus-related death.

A total of 324 coronavirus patients were discharged on Sunday, which pushed the recovery count to 77,35,088, it said in a statement.
There are 2,997 active COVID-19 cases in the state at present.

BEST to install 10 lakh smart meters to beat reading errors

THE BRIHANMUMBAI Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST), which provides electricity to the city along with the bus transportation services has decided to install pre-paid smart electricity meters enabled with 4G and 5G SIM cards for its electricity consumers.

The smart meter will help to eliminate the possibility of errors that takes place during manual meter readings and will also enable consumers to monitor their electricity usage on a daily or even an hourly basis.
