CHANDIGARH: Soon after singer Shubhdeep Singh alias Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead on Sunday, leaders across political parties raised questions on the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) government in Punjab on making the ‘secret list’ of those protectees public whose security is withdrawn.
Earlier one such list was made public on May 12 and the second on May 28. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) former MLA Daljit Singh Cheema tweeted on Sunday, “On May 12, I raised this issue through a tweet but the Punjab government did not learn any lessons. The consequences are before all of us today.”
On May 12, Cheema had tweeted: “In Punjab, first security of political leaders, former police officers, their families etc is withdrawn. Then to claim credit this information is flashed on TVs, newspapers and social media without realising that it may reach their worst enemies and endanger their lives. @CMOPb stop it please.” The former AAP MLA from Kharar, Kanwar Sandhu, tweeted, “Shocking! My fears have come true on @Sidhumo54860869 being attacked. Who will take responsibility now for treating a sensitive issue like security as a PR exercise?”
On Saturday, Sandhu, through a tweet, had raised questions on publishing names of those protectees in the media whose security was withdrawn. Delhi BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa tweeted: “I urge @HMOIndia (Union minister of home affairs) to order an enquiry into how and who leaked the confidential list of people whose security was withdrawn by @AAPPunjab Govt. @ArvindKejriwal & @BhagwantMann are responsible for the brutal killing of #SidhuMoosewala whose security was withdrawn yesterday.”
Sharing a list of those 424 protectees whose security was withdrawn, Sirsa had on Saturday tweeted: “How did such a sensitive document of @PunjabGovtIndia become public! I demand strict action against those who leaked confidential list of people whose security was withdrawn by the Govt of Punjab. First, you withdraw security & then you make them vulnerable by leaking their names!”
