Channel24 sat down with Moses Ingram, who makes her debut in the Star Wars universe as Reva Sevander, or Third Sister, a ruthless and ambitious new Inquisitor character hunting the Jedi left in the galaxy, in the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries on Disney+.
In the new live-action miniseries Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi watches over young Luke Skywalker and evades the Empire's elite Jedi hunters during his exile on the desert planet Tatooine, 10 years after the aftermath of the events of Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope.
Reva has such a distinct look and mannerisms; what did you want to bring to Inquisitor Reva?
A lot of it was on the page to start with, and I think with that, really just leaning into it. Suttirat Anne Larlarb, our costume designer, what she's built - sort of stepping into it - just lends itself to a feeling, and so all of those things paired together, with some good, strong old games of "what if?" all play into having made her what fans will soon see.
To what degree did you have input in Reva's design and look? She looks so very self-assured and confident. The character has a very majestic, regal-like walk.
Deborah Chow, our director, was really great because, from the beginning, she said to me, "Listen, I want you to be a part of making this woman who she will be", and so she really took time to listen to my input. From hair to different choices within the story, she really made room for my voice in building her, so I'm super grateful.
You wanted to keep your character's hair natural as a style for girls, as a character, if they choose Reva to dress up as for Halloween. What message do you have for young girls, particularly in Africa, who see you and want to emulate you or go into showbiz as a career?
I feel like you have to put on the cape for someone else whenever you can because people have done that for me, again and again.
As I get further in this business, you realise your proximity to power is always shifting in the room, and I think you've got to do what you can with yours for others. My small amount was able to have input into my hair and what we do with my hair, and I think that was important.
What's the dynamic at play between Reva and the other Inquisitors?
They're all on the same team at the end of the day – subordinates for the one great Darth Vader. The thing about Reba is that she doesn't care about the way that anyone thinks she does things.
What is the relationship between Reva and Darth Vader? Do the two of those characters interact, and how was it working with Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor?
Both of them are super, super gracious and kind and have laid the foundation in this because they've been doing it so long. I feel really blessed to be starting this process with them.
Working with Hayden, well, Reva's character is a subordinate to Vader, so she's trying to please like every other entry-level employee. Ha ha.
Do you have a cool memory from the set?
It's a lot of people who are big kids. It's hard to call what we do work when you're surrounded by expensive props and toys. In-between scenes, we spent a lot of time playing with blasters and having our own side-lightsaber fights as well, so that was a lot of fun.
Inquisitors are obviously force-sensitive; some were former Jedi, or small little Jedi padawans. We've not seen that many Sith, but now with the Inquisitors, it's almost the first depiction of that "road not taken" of Jedi who, as a group, turn to the dark side. What's the Inquisitor mindset when viewers meet your character and your Inquisitor cohorts?
We're in a world where Jedi are no longer welcome. So, unfortunately, as a Jedi hunter, that means they've gotta go – and that's what happens!
