Girlfriend’s brother among 2 held for youth’s murder in Karnataka

Vijay Kamble
KALABURAGI: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the alleged murder of a 25-year-old youth at Wadi railway station on Thursday evening.
Police suspect that Vijay Kamble, a daily wage worker, was murdered because of his relationship with a 19-yearold teenager from another community. Shahabuddin, the elder brother of Kamble’s girlfriend, and Shahabuddin’s friend Nawaz have been arrested by Wadi police.
Kamble, a resident of Bheem Nagar, and the woman were in love for over two years. Their families were friends and the woman’s family later found out that she was in a relationship with Kamble. The woman’s family warned Kamble to stay away from her. A relative of Kamble, Rajshekhar, said that the two tried to stay away from each other after their families counselled them.
A few months ago, however, they both met and this got the woman’s family angry.
On Thursday evening, Kamble returned home from work, after which he got a phone call at 6.30pm. He left home, saying that he would return soon.
His mother told him not to go out. She later got a phone call in which the caller told her that Kamble had been murdered at the railway station. “We reached immediately. He was found lying in a pool of blood and had breathed last,” she said.
Industries minister Murugesh Nirani, who is in charge of Kalaburagi district, said that the killers of Kamble won't be spared. “Legal procedures will follow and police will ensure that the guilty are punished,” said Nirani. He alleged that opposition parties, Congress and the JD(S), are trying to play politics over the incident and using it to gain political mileage.
