90 convicted in 56 cases in one month in Uttar Pradesh: ADG, prosecution

LUCKNOW: At least 90 people were convicted in 56 different cases of crime across the state in the last one month.
Additional director general, prosecution, Ashutosh Pandey attributed the swift conviction to 100-day action plan chalked down by chief minister Yogi Adityanath for every department.
"All pending cases which were getting delayed due to submission of evidence, or appearance of witnesses were fast-tracked. We conducted meetings with district police chiefs and joint directors of prosecution to pursue pending cases," Pandey said.
Pandey said some of the important cases covered included death sentence to Munir and his aide Raiyan in connection with the murder of a DSP-rank officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Tanzil Ahmad, by Bijnor court on May 21. At least 24 others were sentenced to life in six separate cases which include a double murder case in Deoria in which 14 people were convicted for life.
Two others where given life imprisonment in another murder case in Sonbhadra.
In Amethi, on Rakesh was convicted for life in a murder and loot case while in Rae Bareli, three persons -Sikander, Ayesha and Ajay Singh - were given life sentence for murder and dacoity incident that took place in 2012.
Likewise, one Dilbahadur was given life sentence in a dowry death case in Rae Bareli.
"In all cases, we collected scientific evidence and senior officials consistently monitored the probe for fast disposal," added Pandey. He said six others were given sentences of 20 years each in six different districts of the state for crimes against minor girls. "Emphasis was also laid on cases pertaining to NDPS Act where achieving conviction is difficult but the prosecution worked with police to give results in a timebound manner," he said.
