HYDERABAD: A woman was repeatedly stabbed in public by a man in Kanchanbagh on Friday afternoon for allegedly refusing his advances.
The woman, a widow with six children, survived and is now out of danger, while her attacker is absconding. Both are from the same area and the accused was allegedly harassing her to have a relationship with him since her husband’s death two years ago.
A few among the public tried to help Noor Banu (45), but the accused,
Habeeb (32), kept them at bay by brandishing the
knife and later ran away. The whole incident was over in a few seconds and the
CCTV footage went viral.
Kanchanbagh
police said Noor suffered injuries on her face, hands and other parts of the body after Habeeb came from behind and attacked her as she was walking to her house. “Habeeh has been harassing Noor. Last year, a case was registered against him under section 354 D (stalking) of
IPC and he was chargesheeted too. It is being probed if he had met her prior to murder attempt,” Kanchanbagh inspector Uma Maheshwar Rao told TOI.
