MUMBAI: BMC’s H-west ward issued an inspection notice to La-vie building on Khar’s 14th road on Thursday. It is the building where Amravati MP Navneet Rana and MLA Ravi Rana own a flat on the 8th floor.
The Rana couple was arrested from the same flat by the police on April 23 over the Hanuman Chalisa row.
Civic action against the Ranas’ flat, where irregularities were found, had to be halted after a civil court earlier this week allowed them to make a proposal to BMC for regularisation of their structure within a month.
The civic notice issued on Thursday has been served to all the residents from the 1st floor to the 9th floor of the building by BMC’s designated officer of H west ward. The 8th floor has been kept out of this notice where the Ranas live as the issue of irregularities pointed out by BMC earlier this month is now under litigation.
Thursday’s notice states, “Under section 68 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation act 1888, I have been duly empowered by the municipal commissioner to exercise and discharge the power and functions conferred upon and vested in him under Section 488 of the said act. I herby give you notice that I shall on the day 30/05/2022 thereafter anytime pursuant to the provision of the last names section enter with assistants or workmen into or upon the premises…”
The notice adds that the officials plan to take photographs, measurements as per the approved plans of March 2007.
On May 2, BMC issued an inspection notice to the Ranas for their flat. It was issued under section 488 of BMC act 1888 which empowers civic officials to visit any building and ascertain whether any illegal alterations have been undertaken.
Locals said that the plot where La-vie building stands was a bungalow in the 1990s.
Shiv Sena-led BMC had earlier issued similar notice to Union Minister Narayan Rane for his Juhu building, Adhish Bungalow, and BJP functionary Mohit Kamboj for his Khar apartments over irregularities.
