Death of 7 drug addicts triggers alarm in Sirsa

Chandigarh: With seven ‘drug addicts’ alleged to have died due to overdose in Sirsa during this month, the menace has sent shockwaves across the district.
Notably, Sirsa district is said to be the bastion of Chautalas, and is represented by power minister Ranjit Singh Chautala, Congress MLA Amit Sihag, INLD MLA Abhay Singh Chautala and off course Deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala.
According to information, the deaths reported in the district include a resident of Jan Kalyan Colony, who was found dead in a green belt near Sirsa’s civil hospital on May 7. Another resident of ward number 9 was found dead in fields of a village in Rania. On the same day, a resident of Odhan village had died. On May 17, an addict from Sakta Khera village was found dead , while on May 21, another resident of ward number 7 was found dead in Rania. Moreover, on May 22, a resident of neighbouring Rajsthan was also found dead in Rania.
Sources have claimed that all were drug addicts and had died due to alleged overdose of drug. “One victim had a syringe in his wrist at the time of his dead,” said a local.
When contacted, Sirsa SP Dr Arpit Jain admitted to the deaths of drug addicts, but claimed that only four deaths were suspected to be of overdose. “In total, we have seven suspected deaths, including four this month. The victims could be drug addicts, but the cause of death could be hepatitis, HIV or even cardiac arrest,’’ said SP Jain.
