Arbitral tribunal cannot rewrite contract between parties: Delhi HC
The Delhi High Court has said that it is impermissible for an arbitral tribunal to re-work the bargain between the parties and rewrite the contract for being commercially difficult for one party to perform. Justice Vibhu Bakhru, while dealing with a challenge to an arbitral award passed against the Ministry of Railways in relation to its disputes with Jindal Rail Infrastructure Ltd (JRIL), stated that the arbitral tribunal cannot examine the commercial wisdom and rewrite the agreement on the basis of the commercial difficulties faced by a party in performing its obligations. A commercial contract cannot be avoided if one of the parties subsequently finds it commercially unviable, the court stated.
IIT Delhi study reveals mechanisms driving SARS-CoV-2 evolution in humans
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi have revealed the mechanisms driving the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 in humans which can help in better understanding of Covid-19's pathogenesis, immune evasion and emergence of variants of concern. According to the seven-member research team, CpG (a cytosine followed by a guanine) numbers in virus genomes have been linked to host-switching, the efficiency of virus replication, immune evasion and the ability of a virus to cause disease.
Delhi: Man accused of Uzbek woman’s rape gets bail
A Delhi court has granted bail to a man, accused of raping a woman from Uzbekistan, while noting that no date, month or year had been mentioned by her as to when the alleged offence was committed upon her.Additional sessions judge Jagdish Kumar granted the relief to the man on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety of like amount. “The accused has been in judicial custody since October 23, 2021.
Officials in MCD zone warned of suspension if absent for 3 days
The reunified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)’s Civil Lines Zone has issued an order stating that officials will be suspended in case they remain absent for more than three days without permission.
“If any employee is found absent on three occasions, the said defaulting officer/official will be suspended immediately and necessary action shall be initiated against him/her,” the order issued on May 26 by the office of the deputy commissioner of the zone said.It also stated that a day’s salary would be deducted from the account of employees found absent without prior permission.
“In order to ensure that public services are delivered timely without delay, it is directed that, henceforth, all officers or officials shall be present in the office from 9 am sharp,” the order further added.
Delhi: At Anand Vihar, a six-lane flyover to ease border woes
Delhi government has started work on making travel from Delhi to the NCR cities of Noida and Ghaziabad easier.
The Public Works Department will float a tender to construct a six-lane flyover between Anand Vihar and Apsara border.According to the tender document, a 1.4km flyover will be constructed over the next year and half at a cost of Rs 334.2 crore that will pass over three major intersections on the Delhi-UP road.
After beginning near the Anand Vihar flyover, the proposed flyover will end near Vivek Vihar and is likely to give much required relief to motorists.
Woman steals Rs 2 lakh from father's pension account, held
A woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 2 lakh from her father's pension account, police said, adding she wanted the money to pay her gold jewel loan.
The accused is a housewife. Her husband works as a labourer.According to police, a complaint was received from her 69-year-old father, who alleged that Rs 2,03,000 was fraudulently debited from his bank account between November last year to March.
He said he had received no OTP for any transaction and did not even get a debit message from the bank, Deputy commissioner of police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.

An FIR has been lodged with the Special Cell's IFSO unit against an unknown person, who threatened a Delhi-based lawyer impersonating Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana.A senior police official said that as soon as they received a complaint, they immediately lodged an FIR. The complaint was transferred to the IFSC unit, which lodged the FIR. They formed a team of elite officials to look into the matter.
Delhi: Robber, inspired by movies, arrested
A 32-year-old man, who started robbing people at gunpoint as he was influenced by a character in a regional film, has been arrested.The accused, Bharat, a resident of Sultanpuri, was found to be involved in three criminal cases. "Around 9.40pm on Friday at Old Macchhi chowk, during vehicle checking, the man tried to escape from when the picket staff signalled him to stop. The staff chased him for 10-15 metres and nabbed him,"deputy commissioner of police (outer) Sameer Sharma said.
Guardrails left on only 40km of Yamuna Expressway

After the Wetland Authority of Delhi received requests from land-owning agencies to delete 230 wetlands from the identified list of 1,045 waterbodies, field squads have been preparing red documents for each wetland in its current state.An expert committee will review these documents to recommend whether they need to be retained on the list, deleted, or if their revival is possible.

Mercury rising! maximum temperature hits 42 degree Celsius, days likely to get hotter in Delhi
