KURUKSHETRA: The police arrested two accused of allegedly vandalising a mazhar and hurting religious sentiments at Jyotisar village of
Kurukshetra district on Friday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Rambir and Sandeep Kumar, who were produced in the district court, which sent them to judicial custody, said investigation officer (IO) Krishan Pal.
Meanwhile, on the complaint of Mahender Singh of Jyotisar village, the Kurukshetra police have booked eight accused Rambir Singh, Rahul Tyagi, Sonu, Shiv Ram Vishavkarma, Anil Nagar, Sandeep, Sandeep Kumar, and Amit at Kurukshetra University police station on Friday.
All eight accused have been booked under Section 147 (punish for rioting), 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc.), 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)
IO Krishan Pal said six other accused are undergoing treatment and they will be arrested after they get discharged.
Complainant Mahender Singh said that he is the caretaker of the mazhar. "On Friday he came to know that around 25-30 miscreants came in their cars and they are vandalising the mazhar using hammers and pipes. After getting information the villagers started gathering there and they opposed the miscreants. One of the suspects was also carrying a pistol. While the villagers caught a few of them, the remaining managed to flee", said Mahender.
He said the miscreants were also thrashed by the villagers for their act and handed over them to the police.
Kurukshetra deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Subhash Chander said, "A case of hurting religious sentiments was registered and the matter is being investigated. Two suspects have been arrested and the remaining will be arrested soon."
