Snatcher held with 39 phones

Ludhiana: The Model Town police on Friday busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of one and a telecom shop owner, who would purchase snatched mobiles and would sell it further. The police have also recovered 39 snatched mobiles from their possession while 20 more are yet to be recovered.
Arrested accused have been identified as Pardeep Kumar, 32 of Kot Mangal Singh and the mobile shop owner Prince Chaddha, 25 of Baba Deep Singh Nagar. The absconding accused is Kalu of Shimlapuri.
Joint commissioner of police (JCP), city Narinder Bhargav said on Thursday evening, the Model town police received a complaint from a Gurpreet Singh of Shimlapuri, that bike-borne two accused snatched his mobile. The police team immediately established check posts near Libra crossing on Dugri road to nab the accused. On seeing the police check post, the accused tried to escape but fell down. Meanwhile, Kalu managed to flee, but Pardeep was nabbed with the snatched mobile.
JCP Bhargav said, “The accused confessed that they have executed at least 50 to 60 snatching in the past few months. They are drug addicts and after snatching mobiles they used to sell it further to a mobile store owner, Prince who runs his shop in his house.”
He added that the Ludhiana police have issued orders making it mandatory for every mobile store owner for keeping the details of the seller and buyer of a new or old mobile. The police further questioned Prince and recovered 38 mobiles from his possession. Prince also stated that he has sold 20-22 snatched mobiles further which are being recovered.”
Police are also trying to trace the absconding accused.
