Sainik Market without electricity since May 22

Ranchi: Sainik Market, a prominent market area on Main Road Ranchi, is without any electricity for the past five days after the transformer went bust on May 22.
“The authorities and electricity department took no cognizance of the problem until the evening of May 24. It was only after former secretary, power department, Nitin Madan Kulkarni intervened that a new transformer was transported from Jamshedpur on the morning of May 26 which has reached its destination, and power is expected to be restored in the area by tomorrow (May 27),” president of shopkeeper’s association Soni Mehta said.
Managing director of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited, K K Verma, said that the current electricity demand of the city is between 300 and 330 MW which is being met sufficiently.
On frequent power cuts and load shedding, Verma said, “The weather conditions and wind speed crossing 35kmph in Ranchi affect electricity lines and supply. The issue of Sainik Market was also not communicated to me else the problem would have been resolved much earlier.”
