2 held for killing forest dept staffer

Ludhiana: The CIA-I of Ludhiana Commissionerate solved the murder case of a contractual employee of divisional forest office — Harwinder Singh of Ladhowal area — with the arrest of two snatchers. The accused had only wanted to rob Harwinder of his mobile phone and cash. However, he had resisted their attempt following which the accused had stabbed him to death.
Harwinder’s body was found on the railway tracks in the Jassiyan area on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Akhilesh Partap Singh of Jassiyan Road and Saurav Kumar of Khajur Chowk of Salem Tabri. Their aide Deepak Kumar of Gurnam Nagar of Jassiyan road was yet to be arrested. The accused aged 18 to 19 years.
Police commissioner Dr Kaustubh Sharma said the GRP had recovered a body of a man near railway tracks near Jassiyan Railway Bridge on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Harwinder Singh, 40, of village Rajjowal of Ladhowal, who was a contractual Class IV employee in the forest department. GRP with the help of Ludhiana police had started a probe into the case.
Sharma said Harwinder was returning home from duty when the accused intercepted his way and tried to snatch his mobile phone. When he resisted, the accused stabbed him to death with a sharp-edged weapon and dumped the body near a railway track before fleeing.
A murder case was lodged by GRP Ludhiana, however Ludhiana police solved the case within a few hours.
Sharma said the accused were drug addicts and used to snatch belongings from the labourers during night.
