THANE: A 50-year-old contractor from Navi Mumbai was arrested by the Thane railway police for allegedly molesting a 44-year-old female nurse, employed with a prominent Mumbai hospital, at Airoli railway station, officials informed on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 9.30pm on Tuesday when the accused was travelling in the Trans-Harbour local with his 20-year-old daughter from Thane to Airoli. While he was travelling in the general coach, his daughter was in the adjoining ladies coach and was seated near the complainant nurse who was returning home at Rabale from work.
“The girl had put her foot on the seat to which the nurse objected and threatened to alert the railway authorities. However, as the girl didn’t budge, the victim clicked a picture on her mobile camera which infuriated the girl who called her father. As the train halted at Airoli railway station, the father rushed to the coach and dragged the nurse out of the compartment and allegedly assaulted her,” informed Pandhari Kande, senior inspector at the Thane railway station, based on the complaint filed by the victim.
The man was arrested under Sections 504, 354 and 323 of the IPC and sent to magistrate custody by the court, informed the police, which is probing the case further and will also scan CCTV footage of the spot at Airoli railway station.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
