Dibrugarh: Two persons were arrested on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the burglary that took place at Wancho Baptist Church Association (WBCA) office in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on May 16. Police also recovered Rs 17 lakh cash from the possession of the persons who have been identified as
Khonak Wangpan (30) and
Phelam Wangpang (25), both residents of Mintong village in Londging district.
Police said
Khonak used to work as a clerk at the WBCA Yanlo Centre, while
Phelam was a canteen boy at Longding’s SBI branch.
According to police, a burglary took place at the WBCA office on May 16 and Rs 17 lakh cash was reported to be stolen after the accused broke down the doors of two steel almirahs. After an FIR was lodged, Londging police, led by deputy superintendent of police Chamrak Arun, swung into action. Under the supervision of Longding SP Vikram Hari Mohan Meena, a probe was launched.
“Based on technical and human intelligence, the team was able to zero in on the suspects on Wednesday and an operation was launched to arrest them. After conducting raids at multiple locations, the team was able to arrest both the accused. The full amount of Rs 17 lakh has been recovered from their possession,” Longding police said in a statement.
The stolen cash was seized in the presence of executive magistrate and Longding circle officer
Gyamar Amte.
