Thiruvananthapuram: The members of all the six bar associations in the district would boycott court proceedings on Friday protesting the alleged manhandling of a lawyer by Attingal police on Thursday.
Ad Rajmohan K R, president of the bar association Attingal claimed that an advocate,
Mithun Madhusoodanan (35), was manhandled by the station house officer after he questioned the rude behaviour of the police officer. Mithun, he said, went to the police station to file an
RTI application. After the guard at the station behaved rudely to him,
Mithun later went to the station with three other advocates seeking to settle the issue through discussion with the station SI. After talks, as they were leaving the station, the SHO hit Mithun with a lathi after pushing aside others, the advocate alleged.
Police denied the allegations and claimed that it was Mithun who misbehaved and assaulted the station guard. They said the guard’s hand got injured. “After abusing the officers, Mithun came back with lawyers and staged a protest,” said SHO Prathapa Chandran. Police are yet to register any case in this connection.
