Ludhiana: The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has asked the senior environment engineer of the
Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to recommend action against dyeing units that were found guilty of connecting their sewerage connections with MC sewer line illegally at Kakka Road. The MC had snapped these connections. On Thursday, the additional MC commissioner wrote a letter, demanding action as per law against these erring units as well as the association.
In the letter, additional commissioner
Rishipal Singh mentioned that these dyeing units through Punjab Dyers Association had given a submission in writing saying that their common effluent treatment plant was ready and they were not discharging any waste water into MC’s treatment plant. He said as many as 30 to 35 units were found which had still connected their sewerage lines with MC pipes and untreated water was going to STP first and then to
Buddha Nullah.
The officials claimed that due to such erring dyeing units, the surrounding areas were always flooded with sewage water. The MC officials claimed that members of National Green Tribunal monitoring committee had visited the city and diercted officials to snap the connections of dyeing units as their
CETPs were fully functional and sewage treatment plants were not supposed to treat industry waste.
On May 20, the MC officials had snapped these connections after which nearby areas were flooded with waste water.
