Bhubaneswar: The state government on Thursday decreased bus fares following a reduction in the price of diesel.
As per an official notification issued by the state transport authority, bus
fare has been decreased due to reduction in diesel price from Rs 102.22/litre on April 18 to Rs 94.74 as of Thursday.
Fare of ordinary and express category buses went down by three paise per km while that of deluxe and AC deluxe buses by six paise. Fare of super premium buses has decreased by nine paise per km.
Ordinary buses will charge 89 paise per km as compared to the previous fare of 92, while express buses will charge 93 paise against 96 paise earlier.
Similarly, deluxe and AC deluxe bus fares will now be Rs 1.29/km and Rs 1.57/km, respectively.
For super premium buses, passengers will have to pay Rs 2.44/km against the previous rate of Rs 2.53.
Debendra Kumar Sahoo, general secretary of All Odisha Bus Owners’ Association, said bus fare has been decreased according to the automatic fare revision mechanism.
“Bus fares go down by one paisa for every Rs 2 drop in fuel prices. It also works reversely if diesel price increases,” Sahoo said.
