Greater Noida: A factory that manufactured low-quality salt and supplied them to markets in packets of renowned brands has been busted in Noida with the arrest of two persons.
The two arrested men are
Mukesh Kansal, a resident of Dadri, and
Shakir Hussain, who was from Bareilly.
“A team from Dadri police station was carrying out regular checks near the Jarchha flyover on Wednesday night. A truck was stopped and we found many packets of salt that had
Tata written on them. After sustained questioning, they broke down and admitted it was low quality salt that was being sold in packets of well-known companies,” said
Meenakshi Katyayan, DCP of police in Greater Noida.
The two arrested accused spilled the beans on the factory where the salt was being made. “We seized 20,400 packets of salt that had Tata wrappers on them and 800 bags of local salt. The total weight of the salt seized by us is 60 tonnes,” Katyayan said.
The accused told the cops there were a few vendors who would help them sell the substandard salt in the market. “The estimated cost of the salt we seized is around Rs 10-15 lakh,” the DCP said. Police have learnt that another gang member,
Love Kansal, is on the run. “He will be nabbed at the earliest. While we have arrested the two under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the IPC and sections 63/65 of the Copyright Act. The two were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody,” Katyayan said.
