5 arrested for ₹50 crore extortion bid

Chandigarh: The Haryana police has busted a gang involved in demanding extortion of Rs 50 crore from a trader in Bawal industrial town and arrested five accused within hours of the case being reported in Rewari district. All were produced in a local court that sent them on three-day police remand. All the accused are drug addicts.
A police spokesperson said the arrested accused have been identified as Anil alias Mulia, Sandeep, Sonu, all residents of Khera Murar village, Sumit of Gurjar Majri and Ravindra alias Golu of Banipur village. A motorcycle used in the crime and a country-made pistol was also seized from them. Rahul Batra, a sanitary and tiles trader, had stated in his complaint that on May 24 afternoon, three youths on a motorcycle had reached his shop and demanded Rs 50 crores. They also opened fire on him when he resisted.
Police had formed special teams and cracked the case with the help of CCTV cameras within a few hours.
