Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia Thursday tweeted that Arvind Kejriwal has extended the timings of all stadia in Delhi till 10 pm. This came after The Indian Express reported that athletes and coaches at the Delhi government-run Thyagraj Stadium have been complaining about being forced to wrap training earlier than usual, by 7 pm. The reason, according to them, is this: Delhi’s Principal Secretary (Revenue) Sanjeev Khirwar walks his dog at the facility about half-an-hour later. Khirwar accepted that he “sometimes” takes his pet for a walk at the facility but denied that it disrupted the practice routine of athletes.
Delhi will witness clear skies and a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast indicates that the maximum temperature could increase to around 40 degrees Celsius by May 28, and further to 42 degrees Celsius by June 1.

Delhi is behind the national average in performances in all three subjects—Languages, Math and EVS—at the primary level and has registered a dip in performances since 2017, the findings of the National Achievement Survey 2021 show. However, at class 8 level, it bucked the national trend and recorded better performances than in the pre-pandemic survey.
The survey was conducted in November 2021 with a sample size of 34 lakh students in classes 3, 5, 8 and 10 with the objective of evaluating children’s progress and learning competencies. Read More
A day after a Delhi court awarded life imprisonment to Yasin Malik in a terror funding case, Tihar prison authorities here on Thursday said the separatist leader has been kept in a separate cell under heavy security.
"For security reasons, Mailk may not be assigned any work in jail. He has been kept in a separate cell in jail number seven under heavy security. His security will be regularly monitored and reviewed from time to time," a senior jail official said. Mailk will also not be entitled to any parole or furlough since he is a convict in a case of terror funding, jail officials said.
Even before being awarded life imprisonment, Malik was kept in a separate cell where he stayed alone in jail number seven, they said. (PTI)
BJP MP and former Union minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday left the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena at Raj Niwas here, expressing unhappiness over seating arrangement for the dignitaries.
Vardhan was seen leaving the venue, saying "I will write to Vinai Kumar Saxena ji that this is the arrangement," in a video that went viral on social media.
"They have not provided any seat for even Parliament Members," he was heard saying when asked what had happened. (PTI)

An FIR has been registered against unknown persons on the complaint of Maharashtra Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana after she received multiple "life-threatening" calls. In her complaint, Rana alleged the caller threatened to kill her if she recites Hanuman Chalisa again. In April, Rana and her husband had announced they would be reciting Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's house. They were arrested by the Mumbai police and received bail this month.

Sharjeel Imam had moved an application before the High Court citing the recent Supreme Court order on Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Hearing a challenge against the provision, the apex court on May 11 stayed the pending trials, appeals, and proceedings under Section 124A. He was arrested in Bihar in January 2020. Read more

Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad Thursday before a division bench headed by Justice Mukta Gupta raised a preliminary objection against the maintainability of Imam's application and submitted that the accused would have to first approach the special court under the NIA Act. Advocate Tanveer Ahmad Mir, representing Imam, sought the court's permission to withdraw the application and move to the trial court for the relief.
Allowing Imam to withdraw the application, the division bench granted him liberty to approach the trial court for interim bail. The appeal for regular bail will continue to remain pending before the High Court and will be heard next in August.

Delhi will witness clear skies and a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD forecast indicates that the maximum temperature could increase to around 40 degrees Celsius by May 28, and further to 42 degrees Celsius by June 1. The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung weather observatory has remained below 40 degrees Celsius for the past four days.
