Min: Too late to drop articles; authors say don’t teach it to kids

Mysuru/Hassan/Bengaluru: A day after two renowned Kannada authors withdrew their consent to use their articles in school textbooks, the Karnataka government on Wednesday categorically stated that it’s too late to drop those chapters since books have been printed and set for distribution among schools and students.
Primary and secondary education minister BC Nagesh said he is ready to meet writers Devanur Mahadeva and G Ramakrishna to persuade them to let their articles be part of the syllabus. “They might have ideological differences, but we do not have any,” he added.

Devanur and Ramakrishna had said they did not want their works to be part of the syllabus following allegations that the government was ‘saffronising’ textbooks.
Since the textbooks are already printed, Vishal R, commissioner, department of public instruction, said the government can take a decision on these chapters only for the next academic year.
