Fake ACB sleuth tries to extort govt official

In yet another case of miscreants trying to extort government officials by posing as Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths, a man called an undersecretary in the education department on Tuesday and demanded ‘gifts’ to prevent an ACB raid.

The undersecretary, M Dhananjay, has filed a complaint with Vidhana Soudha police. Cops are tracking the mobile number from which the calls were made.

Petroleum dealers across Karnataka have decided to observe a 'no-purchase' day on May 31 demanding compensation from the Union government for losses incurred by them due to the reduction in excise duty. Though dealers said fuel outlets will function as usual, the probability of 'no stock' boards going up cannot be ruled out.
