Sindhu, whom he had hailed for her grit and will power for writing board exams despite being bedridden for the last 15 months.
After a report in TOI about the girl’s plight, Stalin announced that the state government would bear further treatment costs for her and also help her realise her dream of playing volleyball again. The state government had also arranged for an ambulance for her to travel to the exam centre in T Nagar from her house in Kodambakkam.
She is undergoing treatment at the Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital at Omandurar Government Estate.
Sindhu underwent 10 surgeries last year after she fell from the third floor of a building in December 2020. She wrote her exams with the help of a scribe. A student of Vidyodaya Girls Higher Secondary School in T Nagar, the 17-year-old district volleyball player also lost all her teeth in the fall. Despite her condition, she prepared for board exams with the help of her friends and teachers.
“CM asked about my health and exams. I tried to walk wearing brace on my leg. He was happy to see me walk,” Sindhu told TOI.
Stalin also handed over an order allotting a tea shop at the hospital to Sindhu's father
Shakti, who was struggling to support his family and the treatment of Sindhu with his meagre income.
“Sindhu’s leg and mouth were infected following multiple surgeries. Doctors are administering antibiotics to clean the infection. After that they will start the treatment. They are also training her to walk with the help of a walker,” Shakti said.
