Defence minister Rajnath Singh takes a sea sortie in submarine

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday took a sea sortie in a submarine. "Had a wonderful and thrilling experience during my sea sortie of 'INS Khanderi' today", he tweeted. "Spent hours under the sea and witnessed the combat capabilities and offensive strength of the state-of-the-art Kalvari class submarine", Singh added. After having the first hand insight into the underwater capabilities of the Indian Navy, the Minister said he is more assured of India's security. The Indian Navy is a modern, potent & credible force which has the capability to remain vigilant, valiant and victorious in each and every situation, Singh said. (PTI)

Karnataka aims to bag Rs 5 lakh crore investment in Global Investor's Meet

Karnataka government on Friday expressed confidence about attracting Rs 5 lakh crore investment during the Global Investor's Meet (GIM) scheduled to be held in November.

Minister for Large and Medium Industries Murugesh Nirani said that the three-day GIM will begin on November 2. Top industrialists in the world have evinced interest in investing in the state. "We are hopeful of getting Rs 5 lakh crore investments," he said, adding that in a few years, the complete picture of the state is going to change.

45 convicts set free for good conduct

As many as 45 convicts facing life imprisonment were released on the basis of good conduct on Thursday. All 45 were arrested on murder charges and had completed 14 years of imprisonment. They were lodged at Central Prison.

Karnataka doctor honey-trapped, robbed of Rs 1.16 Cr

The Karnataka Police have arrested three persons, including a woman in connection with honey-trap and extortion of Rs 1.16 crore from a doctor in Bengaluru, police said on Friday.Dr Shankar Baburao from Aland town of Kalaburagi had lodged a complaint with the Upparpet police station.

Later the case was investigated by the special wing CCB.The investigations revealed that the victim doctor's friend Nagaraj from Kalaburagi was the kingpin behind the conspiracy. According to police Baburao ran a private clinic and wanted to get admission to a medical course for his son.

Fake ACB sleuth tries to extort govt official

In yet another case of miscreants trying to extort government officials by posing as Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths, a man called an undersecretary in the education department on Tuesday and demanded ‘gifts’ to prevent an ACB raid.

The undersecretary, M Dhananjay, has filed a complaint with Vidhana Soudha police. Cops are tracking the mobile number from which the calls were made.
