MANGALURU: The Bajpe police have arrested three persons for allegedly assaulting and robbing a person, who was on his way to the Mangaluru International Airport on Monday.
The arrested accused are Naushad,32, his brother Naureen,30, and Akbar,42. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused are relatives of the victim, and about six of them had allegedly planned this attack, to prevent the victim from going abroad.
Police stated that the 63-year-old man, who was assaulted, was from Malali, and was working as a driver for several years in Muscat, and of late, was not coming home regularly. In order to prevent him from going back, his family members planned and executed the attack. When the victim was travelling in a car to the airport on Monday to board a flight to Muscat at 7 am, and was accompanied by three of his relatives, including his sister’s sons, one of his masked relatives waylaid the car, and attacked him, and snatched away his documents, including his passport.
To prove that it was a genuine attack, the occupants in the car rushed the victim to the hospital. The police who interrogated the family, was successful in cracking the case. The accused were arrested on Tuesday, and remanded in judicial custody. A case has been registered under IPC Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery).
