MANGALURU: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (
KCCI) has requested
IndiGo Airlines to restart an early morning flight to Bengaluru, and a late-night service to Mumbai, from the
Mangaluru International Airport. A week ago, TOI had carried a report: Six flights to B’luru from MIA, but none in the morning, which highlighted how this was inconveniencing flyers.
Shashidhar Pai Maroor, the president of KCCI in his letter to IndiGo, stated that Mangaluru, one of the fastest growing non-metros in South India, has over 12,000 people working in the IT/ITES industry in this region, in addition to large-scale industries such as MRPL, MCF, MSEZ.
“There are also several colleges and hospitals in and around our city. There have been several pressing demands from corporates, businessmen and individuals in the city, to restart the early morning flight from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, which was previously departing at 7 am from MIA, and has been withdrawn currently,” Maroor wrote.
“Restarting the flight would be convenient for many to attend work in Bengaluru, and return to Mangaluru by Indigo’s late evening flight,” he stated.
Apart from the Bengaluru-Mangaluru flight, the KCCI also demanded to restart a late-night flight to Mumbai.
Will be blessing for int’l fliersMaroor stated that it helps corporates and businessmen in Mumbai to come to Mangaluru by the early morning flight, and go back to Mumbai comfortably by the late-night flight.
“It will definitely be a blessing to all the international passengers, as that flight can connect them to many international flights out of Mumbai. We are certain that the demand for these flights is going to increase significantly in the days to come,” he added.
