BENGALURU: A principal and a teacher from a private school in Magadi, Ramanagara district, are among seven suspects arrested on charges of leaking SSLC exam question papers and helping students with answers.
Initially, police suspected only the science question paper was leaked on April 11.
The prime accused are Srinivas, principal of Kempe Gowda school, Krishnamurthy, Hindi teacher, and Range Gowda, clerk from the same school.
Other suspects include a scribe and a teacher from another school, identified as Devaraj. They were booked for extorting Rs 10,000 from the prime accused.
Interestingly, it was Devaraj who approached Magadi police on May 19, saying Range Gowda had leaked the question paper.
Police said Devaraj, who had extorted Rs 10,000 from Range Gowda, demanded more money later and when Range Gowda refused, he decided to alert police. But that proved costly for Devaraj as Range Gowda spilled the beans to police that he'd paid Rs 10,000 to Devaraj.
Superintendent of police (Ramanagara) Santosh Babu said they haven't come across any monetary angle so far. "On May 19, Devaraj told Magadi police that SSLC exam question papers were leaked by Range Gowda, a non-teaching staffer with Ranaganatha school. Then, deputy director of public instructions (DDPI), Ramanagara, Gangannaswamy HG, filed a detailed complaint on Tuesday. Based on the latter's complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the suspects," Santosh Babu said.
Asked whether all the question papers were leaked and whether there was any monetary transaction between the suspects and the beneficiaries, Babu said: "The science paper was definitely leaked; we are checking about other papers."
