Ludhiana: The
Khanna police, on Tuesday, booked an HP resident for pronouncing talaq on his wife and his family members and an aide for dowry harassment.
The accused have been identified as Gulzar, his father
Gulam Nabi, mother
Sakina Nabi, all residents of Chamba, and matchmaker
Noor Mohammad.
A resident of Kubba village, Samrala, said in his police complaint, “After my daughter got married to Gulzar, the ‘Muklawa’ (sending of a bride to her husband’s home) was fixed on March 11, 2021. However, during the function, the accused demanded a new car. When we did not meet their demand, they went back without taking my daughter along. Thereafter, Gulzar sent a triple talaq note through Noor Mohammad.”
The bride’s father lodged a complaint with the police on August 20, 2021.
ASI Satnam Singh said a senior official conducted the inquiry after which the FIR was lodged against the accused under sections 498-A (husband or relative of husband of woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the IPC and Section 4 of The Muslim Woman (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
