Govt nurses start strike, to intensify in phases

Nagpur: The members of the Maharashtra State Nurses’ Association have launched a symbolic strike from Monday, which will be intensified in phased manner if the state government fails to fulfil their demands.
State secretary of the association Sumitra Tote said as part of the strike, nurses in all government hospitals stopped work for 1 hour (between 8am and 9am) on Monday. Similar ‘stop work’ will be enforced on May 24 and 25.
“If their demands are not met, the nurses will go on a two-day strike on May 26 and 27. If the government continues to ignore the demands, the nurses will launch indefinite strike from May 28,” said Tote.
“We have been ditched by the state government. Nurses worked day and night during the Covid pandemic. We were promised permanent appointments, no outsourcing, timely promotions, and wages at par with the central government nurses. Nothing of these has happened till date,” said Julfi Ali, secretary of Government Medical College and Hospital branch of Maharashtra State Nursing Association.
