JAIPUR: The high court has ordered police security to be given to the rape survivor, who accused Rohit Joshi, son of minister Mahesh Joshi, of the crime.
In a petition filed in the Jaipur bench of the high court on her behalf, the survivor said she had received threats and was being intimidated. Hearing the petition on Monday.
Justice Birendra Kumar issued notice to the state government and Jaipur city police commissioner.
Expressing apprehension about the loss of life and property, her counsel Naseeruddin Khan told the court that the Rajasthan police did not register the survivor's case due to political pressure. She was compelled to go to Delhi and register an FIR there.
“She is living in Jaipur with her parents and two younger brothers. She is receiving threats. The father of the accused is a very influential person holding the post of a cabinet minister. Due to his political influence, there is a possibility of a loss of life and property to her and her family,” Khan said.
After hearing the plea, the court ordered round-the-clock security for the survivor and her family till Rohit Joshi is arrested and a chargesheet filed. The petitioner said her father had verbally requested the police for security but in vain. “It is the duty of the state government to protect the life and property of its citizens,” her counsel said. Though the petition was filed on May 17, it was listed in the court only on Monday. The public prosecutor, who was present on behalf of the government during the hearing, did not object to the demand for police protection.
