Coimbatore: Two sisters who went missing from the city on Saturday were found near
Melur in
Madurai district the next day. The girls were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and handed over to their parents on Monday.
The east all-woman police said a 16-year-old Class
XII girl and her 14-year-old sister, a Class X student, from Thekkupalayam near Padiyur in Tirupur district, wasted their time on mobile phones and were not concentrating on their studies. So, their parents snatched the phones from them. The siblings were sent to a relative’s house at Sinthamani Nagar at Avarampalayam here last month to make them focus on their studies. After completing their exams, the sisters decided to run away from their relative’s house. “On Saturday around 4.30pm, they walked out of the house with 600. They boarded a TNSTC bus at Gandhipuram to Singanallur. From Singanallur, they went to Palladam and from there to Oddanchatram and finally reached Madurai on Sunday. Roaming around the city for some time, they decided to go to
Trichy and find a job there,” a police officer said.
“After boarding a TNSTC bus to Trichy, one of the girls contacted her friend using a commuter’s phone and informed her that they were going to Trichy. The friend immediately informed the girls’ mother about the call. The mother passed on the commuter’s number to inspector Dowlath Nisha. The inspector called the number and asked the commuter to hand over the phone to the bus conductor. The inspector instructed the conductor to leave the girls at the nearest police station,” the officer said.
The inspector said the girls were handed over to the Melur police on Sunday evening. “Immediately, a police team from the city was dispatched to bring back the girls. They were handed over to the parents on Monday,” the inspector added.
