Haryana civic body polls on June 19

CHANDIGARH: Elections to 28 municipal committees and 18 municipal councils in Haryana will be held on June 19. Announcing the poll schedule on Monday, Haryana state election commissioner Dhanpat Singh said the nomination process will start from May 30 and end on June 4, scrutiny of papers will be done on June 6, while the last date for the withdrawal of candidature will be June 7. Counting of votes will take place on June 22.
"The poll in 28 Municipal Committees and 18 Municipal Councils would be held on June 19, 2022, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Due to the likelihood of extreme weather conditions, polling time has been extended by an hour, and will be held from 7am to 6pm. If required, repolling would be done on June 21," he added.
Elections to the Faridabad Municipal Corporation and three other municipalities will be held later, as the revision of the voter list there is still in progress, the poll officer said.
Around 10,000 polling personnel would be deployed to ensure smooth conduct of elections. Adequate police force shall be deployed to maintain law and order at the polling stations and extra police force will be provided in sensitive and hypersensitive areas, he said.
To conduct elections in a free and fair manner, the state poll panel will appoint senior IAS or HCS officers as election observers, senior IPS or HPS officers as police observers for the maintenance of law and order and senior officers of excise and taxation department as expenditure observers, Dhanpat said.
Candidates are required to maintain an account of election expenditure and submit the same within 30 days. He added 4,000 EVMs of M-2 type will be used for the smooth conduct of elections, photographs of candidates will be printed in the panel and appear on the right side of the name.
The educational qualification for candidates in unreserved category is Class X pass, while for women and SC category it is class VIII pass. For women candidates from SC category, it is Class VIII pass for president's post and Class V for post of member.
