Coimbatore: The Madukkarai police arrested a 36-year-old Madurai resident on Monday for murdering his relative at
Thambagoundanpalayam here on Sunday.
The arrested person was identified as T

Murugan’s relative
R Ramu, 37, of Velanthavalam in Kerala, was having an affair with his wife, police said. “Ramu was a ration rice smuggler and used to visit
Tamil Nadu frequently to buy rice from cardholders. Murugan came to know about the relationship recently and contacted
Ramu to settle the issue. However, Ramu hurled abuse at Murugan and his wife. An angry Murugan visited Ramu’s rented house at Thambagoundanpalayam and hacked him to death on Sunday afternoon,” a police officer said.
Madukkarai police inspector Vairam registered a case against Murugan under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him on Monday. He was remanded in judicial custody and was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
