GREATER NOIDA: A 45-year-old woman and her 17-year-old daughter died while six other members of their family were injured — two of them critically — after a roadways bus rammed into their car in the
Dadri area on Monday morning.
The family was rushing to Delhi from
Bulandshahr to procure medicines for an ailing passenger when the accident took place.
The bus, which was heading to Dadri from Bulandshahr, ploughed into the
Eeco from behind around 6am. While police have impounded the vehicle, the driver is on the run. The few passengers who were on the bus had left before the cops reached the spot.
“The crash took place near Shahji restaurant, located a few metres from Kot police chowki. An employee of a nearby CNG pump alerted the chowki about the accident and a team was rushed to the spot. They rescued the victims and took them to a nearby private hospital. But two persons — Shrimati Singh and her daughter Neha — were declared dead on arrival,” DCP (
Greater Noida) Meenakshi Katyayan told TOI.
Two other persons — Brijesh (22) and Pradeep (55) — suffered critical injuries while the others were discharged after first aid.
“They were members of the same family. Initial investigation indicates the crash took place because of irresponsible and dangerous driving by the bus driver. He rammed into the Eeco from behind and fled the spot soon after, leaving the vehicle behind,” Katyayan said.
The two bodies were sent for autopsy and legal proceedings are underway, the police said, adding they were yet to receive a formal complaint. “However, we are in touch with UPSRTC. The driver of the bus will be traced soon,” Dadri SHO Rakesh Kumar said.
The accident comes just five days after two minor brothers died when their bike crashed into a van that had come to a sudden halt in the middle of the road because of a flat tyre.
According to the traffic police department, more than 2,000 people have lost their lives in nearly 4,600 road accidents in Gautam Budh Nagar over the past five years.
In 2021 alone, 798 crashes were reported in the district, which left 368 people dead and around 550 injured.
