Karnataka: Cash custodian who fled with ATM money arrested in Koppal

Police verify the bundles of currency seized from the accused
BALLARI/HUBBALLI/DAVANAGERE: The cash custodian who allegedly fled with Rs 56 lakh meant to be stocked in a private bank's ATM in Ballari on Monday was arrested by police in Koppal. It was found that the accused, since a year, had been shipping money in small amounts from the ATMs he was supposed to refill. But this time he became greedy and was caught. The accused has been identified as Neelakant, a resident of Ballari. Police recoverd Rs 56 lakh cash from him.
Neelakanta worked as a cash custodian at CMS company. On Saturday, he went to the Karnataka Bank ATM at Meenakshi Circle in the city with Rs 50 lakh, but he did not deposit the cash. He fled with Rs 50 lakh and Rs 6.18 lakh in cash from the bank ATM. He switched off his phone after the incident.
"He stayed at a lodge in Koppal. We traced him after he activated his old sim card in the new mobile phone which he had purchased," said Gurunath Mattur, additional superintendent of police.
Keshwapur police are investigating the case.
