ABVP wants dilapidated ITI building at KPT repaired

Mangaluru: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members on Monday protested at Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) alleging the polytechnic authorities had not paid due attention to their demands that the building of the ITI was in a dilapidated condition, despite repeated reminders.
ABVP city committee has demanded that the government take up repair works in the Government ITI at KPT immediately.
ABVP city committee secretary Adithya Shetty said the ITI building has leaks on its ceilings and students are not able to attend classes. Though the government has allegedly sanctioned funds for its repair, the work has not been started. A condition assessment of the very old building needs to be conducted and students should be shifted immediately, he said.
Pointing to the delay in the admission process for ITI courses, he said the calendar of the ITI does not match with other universities. “If a student misses to get admission in the ITI, he/she will not be able to find another course easily,” he said adding the ITI has no permanent principal and the government has given in-charge responsibility to the head of another institution. One principal must take up the responsibility of many institutions and ITI lacks sufficient teaching staff too, he said.
