Ludhiana: A constable deputed at anti-narcotic cell of Ludhiana police commissionerate was beaten up and carjacked by miscreants near Chet Singh Nagar on Sunday night.
The Division 6 police, on Monday, arrested
Sarpreet, Vishal Kumar, Simranjeet Singh, Amninder and Manjeet, all residents of Ludhiana, and booked their unidentified accomplices. The robbed SUV has been recovered from their possession.
Constable Baldev Singh, a resident of
Bathinda, said, “I, along with my colleague constable Paramjit Singh, had gone to Chet Singh Nagar in my SUV. After Paramjit alighted at Chet Singh Nagar, I went ahead. When I was crossing by a liquor vend, I saw Sarpreet fighting. As I knew Sarpreet, I alighted from the SUV and stopped him from creating a ruckus.” This offended Sarpreet and he, along with his aides, attacked Baldev. “They tore my uniform and escaped after snatching my SUV,” he added.
ASI Rajinder Kumar said a case was registered under sections 379-B (snatching with hurt, wrongful restraint or fear of hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the
IPC. “The other accused too will be arrested,” the ASI added.
