Silchar: The residents of Cachar, which is the worst-hit district following the current wave of flood, are suffering from skyrocketing prices of vegetables and essential commodities. In a bid to check the prices, deputy commissioner (Cachar) Keerthi Jalli has intensified raids against unscrupulous traders who are allegedly involved in black marketing. On the DC’s direction, officials of the district agriculture and food and civil supply department have launched a massive campaign to crack down on the black market in various parts of Cachar. The officials raided several markets, including Silchar’s Phatak Bazar, Tarapur and Ranghirkhari. “There is no shortage of essential commodities and people should not buy excess food items and store them at home. This will lead to an artificial crisis. There is no need to panic,” the DC said on Sunday.
