MYSURU: Buoyed by the announcement of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s participation in the International Day of Yoga (IDY) in the city, the stakeholders started preparations to train as many people as possible in the Common Yoga Protocol.
Starting from Monday, the trainers will visit schools, and other institutions to train those interested.
Mysuru Yoga Federation president Shrihari Dwarakanath on Sunday said around 150 master trainers in the Common Yoga Protocol participated in a brainstorming session in the city. “In this session, it was decided to start visiting schools and other institutions from Monday to train yoga enthusiasts for the IDY,” he said.
Former minister and Krishnaraja MLA SA Ramadas, district AYUSH officer Dr Seethalakshmi, and others participated in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the tourism, education, and health care stakeholders are optimistic that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s June 21 event in the city is likely to boost the Brand Mysuru and help the city to grow further. According to the stakeholders, the PM’s event will increase Mysuru’s visibility at the international level, which in turn helps attract visitors.

PM Modi in IDY as he immensely popularised yoga at the global level and took it to the present scale.
Mysuru Travels Association president CA Jaya Kumar said Modi’s participation will increase Mysuru’s brand value besides giving a global push for tourism, yoga, and industrial activities. “It is a step towards making Mysuru the capital of yoga, and allied activities. The PM’s visit will help Mysuru climb greater heights, in line with Paris,” he said.
MLA SA Ramadas said Mysuru has a huge potential in all sectors of tourism and hospitality. “From note printing hub to yoga, heritage, medical, meditation, etc, Mysuru has a lot of opportunities. Not only Mysuru, the PM’s participation in the IDY will also help the entire region to flourish,” he said.

Basavaraj Bommai and seek funds to upgrade or build infrastructure in the city to match its status. He told reporters, “There is a need for comprehensive development of the city and the PM’s visit will help us get the attention both from the Centre and the state government. Bommai is abroad. He will return on May 26. We will meet the CM and seek funds.”
