NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old
woman died and her son got injured after their
SUV lost control on a
flyover in
northwest Delhi’s
Bharat Nagar on Sunday,
police said.
The incident was reported around 5 am from the Satyawati flyover. The son, who was allegedly driving, lost control of the vehicle at a high speed, police said, adding the incident took place when the duo was returning from a birthday party in Wazirpur and going to a Gurudwara in Model Town.
Police reached the spot and found the injured man in the driving seat of a damaged Scorpio car.
“The incident was captured in CCTV footage in which it was seen that the car was being driven at high speed. The driver lost control and hit the railing after which a door opened and the woman fell down,” a senior official said.
The victim was identified as Poonam, a resident of Ashok Vihar. Both she and her son were immediately shifted to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where the woman succumbed to injuries.
She was a primary teacher at a private school. Her son, aged 21, is a student at a school of open learning. He is undergoing treatment. Police are yet to check whether he has a driving licence.
An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered, police said, adding the woman’s body was handed over to her family after the autopsy.
