Idols row: Mayor visits spot

Vadodara: A day after the row over idols from small temples that were found in an artificial pond in Navlakhi compound, mayor Keyur Rokadia visited the spot on Sunday. Rokadia met advocate Niraj Jain who staged a dharna near the idols on Saturday night and did not budge till Sunday morning. Rokadia said that he would inquire into the incident.
Jain has alleged that the idols, including that of Hanuman, were from the small temples that were demolished on the Old Padra Road by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) for the ongoing flyover work. “They demolished the temples and then disrespected our gods by disposing of the idols in garbage. I staged dharna all night and demanded that the idols be re-installed in the temples,” Jain told TOI.
A VMC official, however, said that the idols found from Navlakhi were not from the temples on O P Road.
