CHENNAI: Mylapore police have arrested a man on charges of threatening and trying to extort money from the managing director of a private firm on Sunday.
Police have booked a case against six people under sections of IPC including extortion and criminal intimidation. The accused include one Kevin, a realtor from Kovilambakkam, youtubers Maridhass and political commentator ‘Savukku’ Shankar and three others from a Tamil magazine.
Kevin, 53, has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
The cases were booked based on a complaint from one Purushotham Kumar, 43, an officer of a private realtor in Alwarpet.
He stated in his complaint that Kevin had threatened the company's founder and managing director Ramajayam, claiming that he would publish an article defaming the company, and demanded a 50 lakh to withhold the news from getting published. Since Ramajayam refused to pay the money, the magazine had deliberately published baseless and defamatory articles about the company without verifying the veracity of the claims made. He also threatened that he would damage their reputation with the help of Maridhass and Savukku Shankar, the complainant said.
