Now, pay up ₹2.5k fine for dumping trash in green belts

Greater Noida: A resident of Sector Delta 1 on Saturday became one of the first people in the city to be fined Rs 2,500 for dumping garbage collected from cleaning his own house into a nearby green belt. Soon after, another resident of Eco Village 2, was penalised similarly for doing the same from his vacant plot in Sector Delta 2.
The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) said on Sunday it will collect the fine and take further action for illegally throwing waste into green areas and public places as part of its new drive. Until now, residents were let off with warnings.
GNIDA chief executive officer Surendra Singh last week instructed the authority’s officials to run an awareness campaign and take strict action against these violations, officials said.
“People are being made aware about the rules through affiliated organisations of the Authority and a penalty is also being imposed on those who throw garbage,” said Salil Yadav, a senior manager in the public health wing of GNIDA.
Yadav is supervising the drive.
The officials told TOI that so far two residents have been fined Rs 2,500 -- Raj Kumar for violating the rules in Sector Delta 1 and Rajesh Kumar Jha in Sector Delta 2.
The two of them have been directed to deposit the amount in the bank account of the Greater Noida Authority within ten days.
Both of them have also been warned of more stringent action, from impostion of heavier fines to cancellation of lease deed, for repeat violations.
“Residents can call the authority’s call centre (010-2336046, 47 and 48) and lodge complaints in case they come across any person throwing garbage on the roadside, green belt or other public places around them,” Yadav added.
Separately, the authority is also shortlisting names of contractual firms who may be performing poorly in maintaining green belts in the city. Officials said the horticulture wing has categorised firms into three sections and action will be taken against those found to be lacking behind in work.
