Morning showers bring heat relief in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack

A vegetable market in the capital city waterlogged after a brief spell of rain on Sunday
BHUBANESWAR: Residents of the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack woke up to a pleasant Sunday with early morning showers providing the much-needed respite from the sweltering heat.
The rainfall brought the mercury level in the capital down from 37.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday to 30.3°C on Sunday. The capital city recorded 36.2 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours and 1.2 mm later in the day.
“Rain made the Sunday morning so pleasant that we instantly made plans to visit Puri and enjoy our holiday. Due to high humidity levels in the past two days, the day temperature was 36-37°C but it was feeling like 43-45°C increasing tiredness and dizziness. The cool breeze after the rain was a perfect setting for a blissful day,” said Anwesha Pal, an IT professional.
A cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal caused the rainfall in coastal and northern districts on Saturday night. The temperature in coastal districts will remain low until Monday compared to the interior districts that have been reeling under intense heatwave condition, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast said.
No large change in maximum temperature over the districts of interior Odisha will occur during the next four to five days.
