Loan sharks lead banker to hang self

Rajkot: Two moneylenders were booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 39-year-old man who worked with a private bank in Rajkot city.
According to the police, Anand Katira had initially borrowed Rs 30,000 from his friend Govind Lambhadiya at 15% interest rate by mortgaging his mother’s gold bangles. Later, needing more money for his father's treatment, the victim approached Lambhadiya again, but the latter introduced him to another money lender, Rukhad Mundhwa.
Katira borrowed Rs 3 lakh from Mundhwa at 7% interest and had repaid Rs 1.7 lakh. However, Mundhwa demanded more money and threatened to kill him if he did not pay up.
Fed up of the threats, Katira hanged himself at his house in Sitaram Society near Kothariya Solvent in the city on Friday night.
Aji Dam police booked Mundhwa and Lambhadiya based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s wife.
