5-day competency enhancement in agri research held

Mangaluru: A five-day training was organised at the College of Fisheries, for the benefit of the teaching faculty of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU). The college is one of the constituent colleges of KVAFSU.
The faculty development programme on competency enhancement in agricultural research was conducted from May 17 to Saturday, and was sponsored by the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad, a sister institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
Dr K C Veeranna, vice-chancellor, KVAFSU, who inaugurated the programme, said policy matters in the development of faculty must be given priority. However, teaching, research and extension must be integrated, to update the knowledge of teachers serving in farm sciences universities, she said.
Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, director, ICAR- NAARM, Hyderabad, said that the programme is being conducted across the country, imparting skilled and advanced knowledge of teaching, research and transfer of technology, to the teaching faculty of farm sciences universities.
“Climate change, plant degradation, and agribusiness management are the areas to be addressed to mitigate environmental stress. However, skill developmental accomplishments are to be imparted while teaching, thereby the students get effective communication skills, and learn by practising knowledge imparted by the teachers,” he said.
Dr Shivakumar M, dean of the college, presided.
