Former mahant of KVT, Dr Kulpati Tiwari, on Monday moved an application in the court of Varanasi district judge seeking permission for regular ‘puja-archana’ (worship) of s ‘shivling’, found in the wuzu pond of Gyanvapi mosque.
On May 20, the Supreme Court had transferred the trial of case no. 693/2021 Rakhi Singh Vs UP government and others in which Hindu parties are seeking worshipping rights at Shringar Gauri and other deities in Gyanvapi premises from the civil judge (senior division) court to the district judge in Varanasi.
During the hearing which lasted for nearly 45 minutes, while the lawyers of Anjuman Intejamia Masajid, the management committee of Gyanvapi mosque, questioned the maintainability of the main plea from the Hindu side, the plaintiffs' lawyer requested the court to examine the evidence found during the court commission survey to prove that temple existed at the mosque's site.

Hindu devotees refer British era govt stand taken in 1936 suit over Gyanvapi mosque dispute
Hindu women plaintiffs who have filed a civil suit before Varanasi court seeking declaration and asserting the right to Darshan and worship Hindu deities whose idols are located on an outer wall of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi have referred to stand taken by the British government in a 1936 suit seeking it to be declared as Waqf property.
The hearing was completed & the decision has been kept reserved. The next date of hearing will be given. We had given an application to provide us with CD and photographs of the report submitted by the commission.
