2,700 devotees from Karnataka bound for Mecca as Haj resumes

HUBBALLI: Suspended for the past two years following the outbreak of Covid-19 the world over, Muslims in India are now preparing to go on their Haj pilgrimage.
Haj Committee chairman Raufuddin Kacheriwala said that as many as 2,700 devotees from Karnataka would be undertaking the Haj pilgrimage this year. Kacheriwala on Sunday said that, nearly 80,000 Muslims would undertake the Haj, on average, each year prior to the outbreak of Covid-19. “Now, the Haj pilgrimage is being allowed, and the state government has made all the necessary arrangements for the benefit of the devotees,” he said.
Kacheriwala added that more than 850 Muslims from North Karnataka were bound for Mecca. The Hubballi Anjuman has appealed to union minister for parliamentary affairs and Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi to ensure that necessary arrangements were made for the benefit of those going on the pilgrimage from the region.
